I have never felt so cold.

Minnesota, Iceland, and Arizona desert, they never felt so cold. California is cold. Don’t let the Hollywood sun fool you, California provides no warmth. The cold goes deep inside you so that your bone marrow feels to have frozen solid, and the rest of you can do no more than shiver in an attempt to defeat it.

The warmth here seems to be only found on the highways that crisscross the state. Asphalt bands of warmth fueled by the never-ending stream of friction from the over-heated tires and the stressed lives of those who drive these strips of warmth.

There is no warmth left in those attempting to live in this land. Their energies have been given over to the practice of using their bodies to obtain what is needed to live in the shrinking land whose resources require more in payment than any other strip of land around it.
