There is only one person who has kept in touch with me from those first years as a professional software developer. Everyone else decided I was too annoying, arrogant, or simply not worth the effort. I suppose many of those things were true.

I was a different person then. Like everyone else, life has changed me. I would like to think in a good way…I would like to think…

I am pretty socially awkward. I am more insecure than anyone would guess, and some of the simplest social conventions of life evade me. I may also be gullible as hell. I won’t blame anyone; it’s all me. I am also guilty of not knowing how to address many of these issues.

What I do know with certainty is that I am eternally grateful to all those people in my life who have stayed, despite me. This Thanksgiving, for me, is a long list of people to whom I will express my appreciation for allowing me to share time with them over the years.
